We all know that if you love fashion, you love Coco Chanel. I've been reading up on her simply out of interest so I thought I'd do a blog post on her life. Here's a little information on her life story.
Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel was born in 1883 in Saumur, France. Her mother died at the age of six, leaving her father to raise five children,he had promptly left them in the care of their relatives. She had a brief career as a concert singer at a Cafe and had been nicknamed 'Coco' during this time. She was a mistress to two wealthy, aristocratic men and the advantage of this had paved the way for her to open her own millinery shop in Paris in 1910.
In the 1920's she had moved onto couture and her business had grown, in 1922 she introduced her very well known perfume, Chanel No.5. In 1925 she invented the cardigan jacket and the little black dress or as it is famously known as these days; the LBD. She had also introduced the androgynous trend which was interesting to women.
During WW2, she had stopped running her business in Paris, Coco had an affair with a Nazi officer. This had affected her popularity but in 1954, she had a comeback in Haute Couture. Her casual designs such the famous Chanel suit were popular amongst women. She had continued working until her death in 1971. Her legacy lives on!! x
